• Markus Aschwanden

    Markus Aschwanden, MD is specialized in Internal Medicine and Angiology. He is Deputy Head of Angiology at the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland.

    His passion for education and training younger colleagues motivates him daily. Dr Markus is a course instructor for vascular ultrasound at the Swiss Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (SGUM) and a leading expert in vasculitis. He has been an active Swiss Medical Teams member since 2017, when he first joined a mission to Khorog, Pamir, in Tajikistan.

  • Andrej Isaak

    Andrej Isaak, MD is specialized in General Surgery, Traumatology and Vascular Surgery. He is Senior Consultant and Associate Professor at the University Hospital in Basel, Switzerland.

    His colleagues and vascular ultrasound enrich his surgical journey day after day. Dr. Andrej is course instructor of Swiss Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (SGUM) for vascular point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and member of the executive board of Swiss Medical Teams. His research interests are innovation and education in Vascular Surgery as well as Vascular Access creation.

  • Martin Rohacek

    Martin Rohacek, MD, is specialized in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He is the Head of Emergency Medicine at St. Francis Referral Hospital in Ifakara, Tanzania, and an Associate Professor at the University of Basel. He has worked in different low-income settings, delivering healthcare services to people living in remote areas.

    He is also a certified sonographer and sonography trainer and has implemented sonography as a point-of-care tool. Dr. Martin joined the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and Ifakara Health Institute in 2015.
